Knowing your Skin Type
What is Skin Type?
It is critical that every woman be aware of her own unique skin type in order to properly buy makeup and care for her skin. Most women, not surprisingly, are not even aware of what their skin type is. Many factors play into what skin type you have. Things such as ethnicity, location, genetics, and age can all be a factor in determining your skin type. Here is a guide to a better understanding or finding out what your skin type is:
Normal skin can be classified as having an even smooth surface. Normal skin is neither oily nor dry skin. It is a balance between oily and dry. Therefore, if you have a normal skin type, your skin will feel neither oily nor dry. Other characteristics of normal skin are a clear complexion, no visible pores, and it is relatively healthy looking. It also does not require special treatments or products.
Dry skin has a very dull appearance and flakes very easily. Large amounts of moisturizer are needed to just get a smooth surface. Dry skin also tends to age faster and is more prone to fine lines and wrinkles. Dry skin can very often be very sensitive and get red and irritated easily. A good test to see if you have dry skin is to wash your wash and don’t put moisturizer on for 30 minutes. If your skin feels tight and rough, then chances are that you have dry skin.
Oily skin can be classified as skin that has an over secretion of oil and is constantly oily and shiny. Oily skin also is susceptible to dirt, blackheads, and pimples. A good test to see if you have oily skin is this: At about mid-day, get a piece of toilet paper and press it against your cheek. Leave on for about 15-30 seconds then pull away. If large amounts of dirt, makeup, and oil are visible on the sheet, then chances are that you have oily skin.
This is the most common skin type among women. Combination skin is usually oily on the forehead, nose, and chin and is dry on the other parts of the face.
Sensitive skin can be oily, normal, or dry. The characteristic of this skin type is if the skin is constantly red and irritated from the environment or from different makeup products.
